Sightsavers has an exciting vacancy for a Programme Officer to join our team based in Monrovia, Liberia. The Programme Officer will be instrumental in the planning, implementation, monitoring and development of the objectives and targets of our Eye Health programmes and projects. Reporting to the Programme Manager, the Programme Officer will collaborate with other staff, partners and other stakeholders is required in order to identify new areas for programme growth and to assist in identifying and developing new initiatives.

More about the role:

Reporting to the Programme Manager, the Programme Officer will contribute to all aspects of the project cycle including monitoring and evaluation and ensuring the meeting of objectives. These are all essential to ongoing programme success. The post holder will proactively provide good quality information as this learning will need to be shared with fellow colleagues and partners. The building of strong internal and external relationships is also central to this role in order to help promote Sightsavers and our projects. Strong project experience with the ability to analyse data and produce reports on the data to the wider team is important as project expenditure monitoring and the provision of reports will be required. Regular travel to the field will be required of the Programme Manager where s/he will need to identify areas that require technical support.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have extensive work experience, ideally gained within an INGO environment. Specifically we require experience in all aspects of Project Management in community level development programmes and experience in health programming. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in programme and project management; monitoring and evaluation; report writing; and working with multiple partners. Experience and understanding of government systems, particularly the health sector will be advantageous.

The skills, training and experience that you’ll need for this role:

A degree in a relevant field (Social Sciences, Development Studies, Disability Studies, Education) or an equivalent qualification will be required. Strong communication skills are vital to this role because we will need you to represent Sightsavers at various forums and events and participate in PR activities.

You will have

  • strong interpersonal, capacity building and facilitation skills
  • the ability to work under minimum supervision because you will be undertaking regular field work
  • the ability to work with project budgets
  • an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as standard communication systems
  • excellent written English

We anticipate that the evaluation process for this role will include a face to face interview held at our offices in Monrovia and a written assessment.
