Programme Officer – Eye Health (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)

Sightsavers has an exciting vacancy for a Programme Officer to join our team based in Kogi State, Nigeria. The Programme Officer will be instrumental in the project coordination, implementation, monitoring and development of the objectives and targets of our Inclusive Eye Health programme. Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager Eye Health, the Programme Officer will collaborate with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders including coordination of all Disabled Persons Organisations’ activities to ensure programme objectives and targets are delivered.

More about the role:

Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager Eye Health, the Programme Officer will contribute to all aspects of the project cycle including monitoring and evaluation and ensuring the meeting of objectives. These are all essential to ongoing programme success. The post holder will proactively provide good quality information as this learning will need to be shared with fellow colleagues and partners. The building of strong internal and external relationships is also central to this role in order to help promote Sightsavers and our projects. Strong project experience with the ability to analyse data and produce reports on the data to the wider team is important as project expenditure monitoring and the provision of reports will be required. Regular travel around Kogi State and occasionally further will be required where the Senior Programme Manager Eye Health identifies areas that require technical support.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have extensive work experience, ideally gained within an INGO environment. Specifically, we require knowledge of eye health provision in Nigeria and experience of working with Disabled Persons Organisations’ is advantageous. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in programme and project management; monitoring and evaluation; report writing; and working with multiple partners. Experience and understanding of government systems, particularly the health sector will be advantageous.

The skills, training and experience that you’ll need for this role:

A degree in a relevant field (Public Health, Sciences or related disciplines) or an equivalent qualification will be required. Strong communication skills are vital to this role in order to build effective relationships with partners, colleagues and other stakeholder groups.

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and project management skills
  • Excellent networking and advocacy skills
  • The ability to work within project budgets
  • An in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as standard communication systems
  • Excellent written English
  • Strong analytical skills
