Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a mixture of treatable and preventable diseases that continue to affect over one billion of the world's poorest, most marginalized and most remote communities. They are a consequence and cause of poverty as they thrive where access to clean water, sanitation and healthcare is limited. Their impact on individuals and communities can be devastating. Many of them cause severe disfigurement and disabilities. They impact on life expectancy, education and economic opportunities of affected individuals and the communities they live in.
In 2014, Sightsavers was awarded a grant by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to host the secretariat for Uniting to Combat NTDs, a coalition of invested and dedicated organisation working to support the achievement of the WHO 2020 goals in respect to 10 NTDs. Since then, partners have been working alongside WHO and national programs to address the neglected disease burden in some of the world's hardest to reach areas and tracking their progress towards the 2020 goals through an annual global scorecard.
Building on from the success of the project to date, we are now recruiting a communications and social media producer. As someone with demonstrable experience of working on social media platforms, along with excellent editorial experience and strong writing skills, you will lead the day-to-day running of the Uniting to Combat NTDs Twitter account @CombatNTDs, the Uniting Facebook page and Instagram accounts, helping to establish a strong presence on all social media platforms for Uniting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire social media offer across all platforms with the aim of growing our audience reach and engagement, as well as referrals to our content across all platforms.
Interviews on 6th September 2016
