Sightsavers is looking for an Environment and Climate Intern to help provide project coordination and administration of implementing ISO14001 for the Operations Planning and Finance department.
Salary: £10.90 per hour (Living Wage)
Location: UK remote – with occasional travel to Haywards Heath, when required
Contract: Internship for 8 months
Hours: 25 hours per week, 3 days a week, with some flexibility around hours worked and some home working
About the role
Sightsavers is seeking a proactive and energetic Environment and Climate Intern to support the organisation in building an effective environmental management system and to achieve certification to the international standard – EMS ISO14001.
The internship will begin in January 2023 for 8 months on a part time basis (25 hours per week).
It would be beneficial if the candidate were available to work from Sightsavers head office in Haywards Heath from Tuesday to Thursday, however consideration will be given if this is not feasible, and the person is a suitable fit for the role.
Principal accountabilities:
- The collection and analysis of data required for organisational and environmental reporting, conduct risk assessments, implement environmental management system related procedures and support with administrative tasks, such as filing and document control.
- The provision of administrative support and assistance with environmental and climate research for the Governance Manager and Decision Support Manager.
- Develop and maintain understanding of in EMS ISO14001, carbon literacy and environmental management through training.

Jobholder entry requirements – the essential knowledge and skills required
- Passionate about the environment and an understanding of climate change.
- A strong curiosity, and/or experience, in a relevant industry topic e.g., ESG, ISO14001, circular economy
- Good work ethic with excellent organisational skills to meet reactive workloads and daily and weekly deadlines
- A keen learner involved in all aspects of communications from the research phase right through to developing content.
- Ability to research and analyse information accurately, and produce high quality written work
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Experience with administration and general office duties
- Fluent English
